The Elizabeth Giants AAU Basketball team has made us proud again, winnng their second consecutive national title.
U13 / 7th Boys – Elizabeth Giants 49 vs. Ohio Valley Force 48
In 2007 the Elizabeth Giants 6Th Grade 12U AAU Basketball Team became the first team in Elizabeth History to Win a National Title, and on June 30, 2008 they repeated that accomplishment and won their 2ND National Title in two years.
Lead by Coach Tyce and Coach Jemmeo this unbelievable group of 12 & 13 year old kids defied all the odds stacked against them, with Street Gangs at an all time high this group of young men fought off the temptation and pier pressure from close friends and allies and successfully became part of another chapter in Elizabeth History.
It all started in early March with an Inner City Tournament hosted annually by the Elizabeth Giants called “March Madness” this tournament usually serves as a pre warm up to kick off the AAU season, with 9 of the 12 players from the traveling AAU squad they put together an 8-0 record and won the Championship. In early April they we’re runner ups in a Spring Fling tournament hosted by Training Today’s Athlete’s, they then took to the road and won 4 out of the 5 major tournaments they entered competing in competition from Connecticut to the Pocono’s and ending up in Maryland and Virginia. Despite horrible officiating in Virginia & Maryland they placed 2ND and qualified for the Nationals in Memphis Tennessee, however due to financial restraints they decided to attend the AABC Nationals in Dayton, OH after winning the Regional Qualifier in Wayne, NJ. All and All they compiled an overall record of 34-5 of course our success would not have been possible without the support of the President of the Elizabeth Giants Ahmed Ismail, Vice President Humza Thomas and the Treasurer Malik Jackson. We would like to especially acknowledge Mayor Chris Bollwage, Assemblyman Niel Cohen, Senator Raymond Lesniak, Assemblyman Joseph Cryan, and Chief of Staff Gleisha Givens, Councilman Grova, Councilman Gallman and Councilman Cuesta and Last but not least our dedicated Parent committee Led by Valencia Coleman, Crystal Brown and Raja & Suhda Natarajan.
